Message Cliff's notes:
-Was tempted to buy a 1990 Carrera on a lot for cheap
-Felt remorse for the Z
-Wasted an a$$hole on the ride home
-Felt better about the Z
-Faith restored, spent the rest of the night detailing the interior of the Z and fixed a lingering electrical problem.

OK troops, I was checking the Autotrader as I usually do, and a local lot was selling a 1990 Carrera for reasonably cheap. In dark burgundy, my favorite colour. So I thought I'd check it out after work. The place was closed 'natch, but I could peer at it through the chain link, it looks actually pretty good, but at that price, something's gotta be screwed. I have respect for the NA 911's, I've autocrossed several with the local PCA group, (the car drivers, not the posers) and these cars can kick. So I turned around to see the Z sitting under the streetlight, and thought: Damn, here's my car, same year, cheaper to maintain, looks great, and performs too. Jumped in to ride home, still thinking I'll maybe test-drive the Porsche tomorrow. While I was driving with these thoughts bouncing around my head, a Chev pickup with tons of chrome blasts past me in a hospital area, doing well over the limit. @#$%@#$% bastage, as he weaves in and out of traffic, (didn't opt for the signal light package when he bought his truck, either, it seems). He's heading down the hill towards the river: (the long straight bit)

He's gone, and I'm not about to chase him... what's the point? But wait, as the road crosses the river and gets twisty:

who's bogging the inside lane? It's pickup dude! I pull up steady cruising, and he accelerates as I pull alongside. He's not giving up pole position, dammit! Enough of this crap, time for some edjumecation. Suffice it to say, he was sucking wind around the last bend towards 107 ave. Z was wanting more, but time to head home. Street racing is ghey, wasting an a$$hole on a deserted two lane twisting road is justice.

Thinking about the Porsche again, damn, I'd miss boost. Big time. So to make up for the moment of weakness, I dragged out the vaccuum and detailing cloths, fired up the music, cracked the first beer, and set to cleaning my very dusty and faithful daily driver. While flat on my back cleaning the underside of the steering console, I see a couple of mystery wires disappearing into the console. Traced them back to their source, spliced into the wiring harness. However, one end was jammed into a fuse in the kick panel (accessory, to draw power, I guess) the other, bolted to the metal underdash. Following all saftey procedures (disconnect neg battery terminal, glasses and gloves, you know the drill) I proceed to yank them out. *Shrug* dunno what they were doing there, but now, my hatch doesn't trigger the alarm when I open it with the car locked. Success, I guess. In conclusion, I was a fool, Z cars are the best.

Credit to Damon for introducing me to Google Earth, without which this post would not be possible. Beer please...

The 300ZX Turbo is a dance; it's a song;
it's rolling, roaring automotive art.
There is no color that doesn't suit it.
There is no mood-lifting chemical
substance it cannot replace.
